General Description

Protokylol hydrochloride is a synthetic sympathomimetic amine, a β-adrenergic receptor agonist, structurally related to isoproterenol. Its chemical structure is 4-[2-[1-(1,3-benzodioxol-5-yl)propan-2-ylamino]-1-hydroxyethyl]benzene-1,2-diol hydrochloride. It is a white to off-white crystalline powder that is soluble in water. The molecule is a potent bronchodilator.

Mechanism of Action

Protokylol acts as a β-adrenergic receptor agonist, stimulating the production of cyclic AMP (cAMP) in bronchial smooth muscle cells.
