General Description
Testosterone tridecanoate is a 17β-fatty acid ester prodrug of testosterone. Its primary mechanism of action involves enzymatic hydrolysis by esterases to release testosterone, which subsequently activates the androgen receptor (AR) to exert both androgenic and anabolic effects.
Mechanism of Action
Testosterone tridecanoate, as a synthetic testosterone derivative, supplements the body’s testosterone levels, promoting protein synthesis and muscle growth while regulating gene expression through binding to androgen receptors within cells. Its metabolic products, dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and estrogen, further expand its physiological effects, influencing sexual function, bone density, fat distribution, and overall metabolism, thereby improving the quality of life for patients with low testosterone levels.
Application
Testosterone tridecanoate can be used to treat decompensated cirrhosis complicated with sarcopenia, secondary sarcopenia, and hepatic encephalopathy.
