General Description
Ammonium Lactate is the ammonium salt of lactic acid, classified as a keratolytic and humectant agent. It combines exfoliation with enhanced skin hydration through dual mechanisms.
Mechanism of Action
Ammonium Lactate reduces corneocyte cohesion by decreasing intercellular pH, promoting desquamation of the stratum corneum. Lactic acid also enhances ceramide biosynthesis and increases skin hydration through its hygroscopic properties.
Application
Used in the treatment of dry and keratotic skin conditions. Ammonium Lactate is indicated for xerosis, ichthyosis, keratosis pilaris, and hyperkeratotic conditions requiring exfoliation and moisturization.
