General Description
Sibutramine Hydrochloride is a cyclobutylamine derivative classified as a centrally acting appetite suppressant. It acts as a serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor with additional dopaminergic activity.
Mechanism of Action
Sibutramine inhibits presynaptic reuptake of serotonin and norepinephrine, increasing their concentrations in synaptic clefts within appetite-regulating centers of the hypothalamus, promoting satiety and reducing food intake.
Application
Used in the management of obesity. Sibutramine Hydrochloride is indicated for weight management in patients with a body mass index of 30 or higher, or 27 or higher with comorbidities such as hypertension or diabetes.
