General Description
Saralasin Acetate is a synthetic octapeptide analog of angiotensin II, classified as a competitive angiotensin II receptor antagonist. It was among the earliest pharmacological tools for investigating the renin-angiotensin system.
Mechanism of Action
Saralasin competitively occupies angiotensin II type 1 receptors, blocking endogenous angiotensin II-mediated vasoconstriction and aldosterone secretion. Its partial agonist activity can transiently elevate blood pressure before antagonistic effects predominate.
Application
Used in the diagnostic evaluation of renin-mediated hypertension. Saralasin Acetate is indicated for identifying surgically correctable renovascular hypertension and assessing renin-angiotensin system contribution.
