General Description
Decapeptyl is the acetate salt of triptorelin, a synthetic GnRH (gonadotropin-releasing hormone) decapeptide agonist. It features a D-tryptophan residue at position 6 replacing the glycine of native GnRH, which confers greater receptor binding affinity and resistance to enzymatic degradation compared to the natural hormone.
Mechanism of Action
Decapeptyl initially stimulates pituitary LH and FSH release through GnRH receptor activation, but continuous exposure induces receptor desensitization and downregulation, resulting in profound suppression of gonadal steroidogenesis and a hypogonadic state.
Application
Indicated for the treatment of hormone-dependent cancers including prostate cancer and breast cancer. Decapeptyl (triptorelin) is a synthetic GnRH agonist with D-Trp6 substitution that provides sustained pituitary downregulation and profound suppression of gonadal steroidogenesis through continuous receptor activation.
