General Description

Iodohippurate Sodium I-131 is a radiopharmaceutical in which iodine-131 is incorporated into the hippuric acid molecule. It is selectively excreted by the kidneys through glomerular filtration and tubular secretion.

Mechanism of Action

Iodohippurate Sodium I-131 is cleared from the bloodstream by the kidneys via glomerular filtration and proximal tubular secretion. The gamma emissions from I-131 decay are detected externally, generating renograms for functional assessment.

Application

Used in diagnostic renal function evaluation. Iodohippurate Sodium I-131 is indicated for renography, assessment of individual kidney function, detection of renal artery stenosis, and evaluation of urinary tract obstruction.
