General Description
Dexbrompheniramine Maleate is the dextrorotatory enantiomer of brompheniramine, a first-generation propylamine antihistamine. It exhibits approximately twice the antihistamine potency of the racemic mixture.
Mechanism of Action
Dexbrompheniramine competitively blocks histamine H1 receptors on effector cells, preventing histamine-mediated activation of phospholipase C signaling that triggers vascular permeability, smooth muscle contraction, and sensory nerve stimulation.
Application
Used in the symptomatic relief of allergic conditions. Dexbrompheniramine Maleate is indicated for seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis, urticaria, angioedema, and allergic conjunctivitis.
