General Description
Dandelion Root Extract is a processed and concentrated extract from the root of the herbaceous flowering plant Taraxacum officinale. It is extremely rich in flavonoids, polysaccharides, phenolic acids, vitamins B, C, E, and minerals. Dandelion Root Extract is a natural rich source of minerals and Omega-3 fatty acids and supports a comprehensive approach to well-being and therapeutic care.
Mechanism of Action
The dandelion root extract has multiple mechanisms of action. The primary effects are related to free radical scavenging and anti-inflammatory dampening, due to the high flavonoid and polyphenol content. Dandelion root is also a source of inulin-type polysaccharides, which support gut microbiome modulation and digestive motility. The extract is also rich in sterols and terpenoids that support detoxification in the liver and have antimicrobial effects.
Application
Dandelion root extract is a common nutraceutical ingredient with uses for supporting the liver's detoxification function, for reducing water retention, and for supporting healthy digestion by relieving constipation. In topical applications, the extract can relieve dermatitis and other inflammatory skin conditions, and dry and scaly skin.

Dandelion Root Extract is the most abundant source of taraxasterol, triterpenoids, and high-molecular polysaccharides that are responsible for most of its reported bioactivities. Dandelion Root Extract selectively induces caspase-8/caspase-3-mediated apoptosis in human leukemia, melanoma and gastric cancer cells without harming normal lymphocytes.
Dandelion Root Extract suppresses proliferation, migration and lncRNA-CCAT1 expression in gastric (SGC-7901) and esophageal squamous-cell carcinoma, and represses PI3K/AKT, Ras/Raf/ERK and Wnt/β-catenin signaling, reversing epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition and lymphangiogenesis. In rodents, Dandelion Root Extract reduces LDL-C, TG and MDA, increases SOD/GPx, and attenuates non-alcoholic fatty liver, atherosclerosis and doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity by activating Nrf2/HO-1 and inhibiting NF-κB/NLRP3.
