General Description

benzyl (S)-2,5-dioxooxazolidine-4-acetate is the N-carboxyanhydride (NCA) of Aspartic acid beta-benzyl ester, serving as an activated monomer for producing functionalized poly-aspartates.

Mechanism of Action

It enables the synthesis of Poly(benzyl-L-aspartate) (PBLA) via ring-opening polymerization. The benzyl ester on the side chain maintains the polymer's hydrophobicity and can be subsequently modified to adjust the polymer's physical properties.

Application

It is primarily used in the development of polymeric micelles for drug delivery and as a structural component in biocompatible hydrogels.
